About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

does Hong Kong qualify as a second Asian country?

Can you fly from London to Hong Kong, stay in Hong Kong 1 day, then travel to Beijing, stay for one day then back to London using a 72 hour transit visa?

Would that itinerary work if the flight home to London had a connection back in Hong Kong, but was ticketed as Beijing-London? Thanks
