About:Marriage Registration in China

Getting married to a Chinese

Hi there. I'll be getting married to my Chinese fiancée in less than 24 hours. I'm currently on a student X type. My question is, after getting married, what type am I eligible to apply for( one that won't require me to leave the country) and what is the duration of stay? For example if it's a one year visa, can I keep renewing it every year? And what do I need to apply? I dropped out of my university here in China and I want to know how to change from a student X type to a marriage one which won't require me to leave the country. Thanks

After getting married, you are able to apply for the S1 type, and then you can apply for a temporary residence permit which will allow you to live in China for at least one year. After one year, you can renew it.
You need to provide passport, a passport-style photo, a completed application form, valid registration form of temporary residence, an invitation letter from your wife and copy of her Chinese ID card, as well as your marriage certificate. And then go to the exit and entry administration of the local PSB to change the X type to S type.

Thanks a lot! Do I have to exit the country to change to the S1 type?
