About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

What if my application is rejected?

I'm planning on stopping for 2 days in China on the way from the US to India. So I will book a ticket with a 2 day stop. But what happens if my 72hr visa is rejected at the airport (you have to apply when boarding)? Is my ticket now invalid? can't I apply in advance somehow?

Do you mean 72h transit without visa?
If you're an Indian passport holder you can't use the visa free transit.
If you wanna stay 2 days in China, you have to apply for a tourist L type in advance.

Again, the 72-hour FREE transit is NOT a visa. The Chinese immigration will not prevent you from entering China as long as you do not have a derogatory record in China. As for the airline, they do have discretionary power to let people on board, but since the policy is well-published I wouldn't consider it a issue (and they can call the immigration to confirm anytime if in doubt). If you are really THAT unsure then you should fork out $160 to apply for a type L visa instead.
