Seeking clarification on the 72 hour visa exemption...

I am planning on flying to Shanghai from Jakarta, with a connection in Singapore, for a short, 2.5 day trip. If my return trip from Shanghai takes me through Malaysia as a connector before returning to Jakarta, I would qualify for the exemption, correct??

Thank you!
