Is there much difference in comfort between first and second class train tickets?

The first class carriage has four seats in a row, while the second class has five. The seats are wider and softer than that in the second class. So the first class carriage offer a more comfortable experience. However, its ticket price is 20%-40% higher than that of a second class seat.
