Taking my child

My wife and I have an invitation letter but would also like to take our 6 year old child. Does the child require an invitation letter or other special considerations to be allowed a visa to travel with us to China?

You should apply for a tourist L type for your child to travel with you. The invitation letter is not necessary as long as you can provide round trip air tickets and hotel reservation for your kids.
