We will be travelling to China on 3 August for a 8 day holiday.

How soon do we have to apply for a visa.
My partners passport is due to expire late May 2017 and he has applied for a renewal

Alison, you are advised to make the application one month prior to your trip.

I was told its 6 weeks before, (just a tip when you go for a photo make sure you tell them it's for a China visa, don't use your Aussie passport photo. China visa photo is bigger and portrait is different) it does tell you on thier web site, but bear in mind your partner will need at least 6 months left on his passport before it expires, this is now the norm in a few countries, so that makes. 10yr passport only 9 1/2 yrs.
