About:China Visa Entries / Validity / Duration of Stay

I have a student visa, multiple entries, expiration in August '17.

I had to finish my semester in central-western China early due to medical problems.
I am no longer a student at that school, but am I still allowed to use this visa to go visit friends?

No, you are not allowed to use the student X type any more once you finish your study. You can try to change the student X type to a tourist L type at the exit and entry administration of the local PSB and then use the tourist L type to visit your friends.
