Hi, weather in May is warm as Chengdu enters its summer season in mid May. It rains a lot and gets muggy after rain. Anyway, it is still a good time to visit Chengdu. I think 2 to 3 days is enough to cover Chengdu city. If you also want to visit Leshan and Emeishan, 5 to 6 days are needed.
