About:China Visa Entries / Validity / Duration of Stay

Visa in passport which will shortly lapse

Can the 2-year visa in my about to lapse passport be transferred into a new passport or would I have to re-apply?

Neither. You travel with your expired and new passports and show both when boarding/clearing immigration.
