About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Flight from Italy to Tokyo with a stop-over in Shanghai PVG of few hours.

As an Italian Citizen, and Italian Passport, with Visa to enter Japan and flight ticket to Tokyo with stop-over in PVG, can I use "Free Transit in China" to meet a friend who will come to the airport ? How can I do it , do I need any special permit or application ? Many thanks for good suggestion. Claudio

If you transit in Shanghai for less than 144 hours, you can enjoy the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai. You need to inform the airlines that you want to use the 144 hour free transit when you board the plane in Italy. After you arrive at Shanghai airport, you can go to the transit counter to apply for the free transit by proving your passport, the air tickets and valid visa for Japan.
