Single entry Visa for 2 days 1 night in Beijing

I will be travelling to Shanghai next month for a weeks holiday and wanting to travel to Beijing by train for 2 days 1 night and then travel back to Shanghai before I fly back to New Zealand. Am I allow to do that with my Single Entry Visa as long as I do not leave China and then re enter. Am I right?
