Taking pictures in airports

Is it really forbidden to take pictures in airports? Or you just suggest to don't do so? If I avoid customs and security, will I get into trouble? What can happen to me if I take the risk of photographing in PVG airport for exemple? I'm a planespotter and I wanna do a trip report as well as taking some pics of airplanes at their gates... Thank you!

Jonathan, you should not take pictures at the security check point, immigration & cutoms check point.
It is ok to take pictures at the rest areas.
