About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Traveling tomorrow need help!

Hello I'm leaving for Asia in less than 24 hours and first stop is Tokyo thankfully. Still need to book rest of my trip. If I go from Taipei Taiwan to Hong Kong and then Shanghai onto Miami back in the US will I need anything other than my Passport? I'm a US citizen and do not plan on staying more than 72 hours in each city. Would it make a difference if I stopped in Seoul after Hong Kong or Shanghai? I do not have time to go apply for a visa right now. Already short on time. Thanks for the help and advice :)

Taiwan and Hong Kong don't count as China for immigration purposes. Can you share your exact routing from Hong Kong? Because I can't see direct flights from Shanghai to Miami on google flights. If you fly HKG-SHA-Somewhere in China you can only stay in China for 24 hours. But if you fly (for example) HKG-SHA-SEL you can have 144 hours transit without visa in Shanghai.

Hi I was thinking of flying from Taiwan to Seoul (on the 22nd of this month), then to Hong Kong followed
by shanghai and onto Miami on the 27th, if possible. There isn't a direct flight from shanghai to Miami.the best I could find is as one stop on Google flights. If I go this route will I need a visa for any of these destinations? Are there loopholes where I won't need a visa? If I do need a visa then I will avoid going to a particular city/country. Please advise thank u so much.

So you have to fly Hong Kong - Shanghai - Somewhere else - Miami. Just make sure that "Somewhere else" is not Hong Kong and not another city in China. Then you can have 144 hrs visa-free transit in Shanghai.

Okay thanks for clarifying. A bit bummed because the cheapest flight to Miami was from shanghai that I recently saw but I'll keep looking. Still want to go to China. Appreciate all your help!
