About:China Visa Renewal and Extension

Possible to extend or switch from a S1 visa?

I currently live in China and have a S1 type. My husband who works has a Z type. He must go back to our home country for a few weeks to deal with a child support case that has blocked his passport renewal. Our visa's expire on the 25th of this month. Unfortunately, the consulate has his passport and while willing to help his employer says she needs his passport in order to extend our visas. We would like to save money by not having our entire family of three travel back to our home country. My question is...can I leave China and go to Hong Kong with my son for a few days and switch to a tourist L type? This would be cheaper and once my husband returns in two weeks I can get the S1 again. Thanks for any feedback!

You can go to HK first and try to apply for a tourist L type. After your husband returns, you can get the S1 type again.
