Soft sleeper sharing?

Me n and my wife are travelling overnight to xian. We want to have cabin to ourselves. Do we have to by 4 tickets ??

Yes, if you want to have a cabin of your own, you need to buy 4 tickets in total. The most important part is that you need to hold 4 passports to collect the 4 paper ticket. Without paper tickets for the extra 2 beds, they maybe sold out again during the trip.

My husband and I bought all four tickets so we could have the cabin to ourselves. The strategy had worked for us before. But this time, the train people realized that we didn't have four passengers, and they were clearly not happy. About three hours later at around 10 pm, sure enough, our tickets were resold. two guys came in to our compartment And crawled into bed. Awkward and not fun. So, yeah, without extra passports, you may end up buying four beds and only getting two.
