Is an invitation from a citizen a must for a business trip in China?

I want to start up a restaurant and would like to shop in China. Is it a must to have an invitation from a Chinese citizen even if it's just for a month or less?

Augusta, an invitation letter from your business partner is necessary if you want to apply for a business M type.
If you just shop in China, maybe a tourist L type is enough.
