About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Malaysia - Shanghai - Beijing - Xian - Hong Kong

I hold a Uk passport but reside in Malaysia. If I use the 144 hours visa and enter China via Shanghai airport will I be permitted to travel onto Beijing and/or Xian before departing for another country (probably Hong Kong) prior to returning to Malaysia?

Jacqueline, no, you are not allowed to travel to Beijing and Xian when you enjoy the 144 hour free transit.
If you travel like Malaysia - Shanghai - Beijing - Xian - Hong Kong, you need to apply for a visa beforehand.
