About:Dress Code in China

Dress code for student

I'll be coming to China in September as a student and I'm very concerned about dressing to avoid attracting too much attention. Is there any appropriate dresses or colours I'll need during my stay. And what would be the weather like

Lawrencia, some conservative clothes are suitable. If you are going to the northern regions, it is usually 70F averagely in september; t-shirts and pants can do. If your destination is in southern regions, the average temperature is around 80F in september and you should notice not to wear vest, slippers, shorts, or short skirt to class. If you will stay for several more months, prepare more warm clothes or you can buy some after arrival.

You will attract attention because you are a foreigner, but no more than any other foreigner unless you decided to dress in revealing clothing (by that I mean tube tops and daisy dukes). The Chinese is surprisingly open minded and gracious to foreign guests provided the visitors are well mannered. They will take more offense to disrespects shown towards their religion and historical landmarks than what people wear. When I visited (I've gone several times) I wore the typical Tshirt and jeans. I stood out because I looked different. Enjoy your trip, I hope I can go back soon.
