can anyone recommend a hotel in a good area for sightseeing in shanghai

My husband and I are visiting China in May 2017, would like a couple of nights in SH before a river cruise, if anyone can recommend any activities including a cruise, thank you..

I recommend hotels on the Bund, ie  The Peninsula Hotel and Hotel Indigo. They offer great views of the Huangpu River and the Pudong New Area across the river. For the activities, you can go to visit the Yuyuan Garden, taste local snacks outside the garden, enjoy a cruise on the Huangpu River, learn China history in the Shanghai Museum. If time permits, you can visit one of the surrounding watertowns. Have fun~
