Job Z visa to X1 type from home country

I am having valid z type and "Alien Employment Licence" but I got phd offer so I want to get the X1 type from my country.
If I apply for student type (X1) from my home country, in that case do I have to cancel my "Alien Employment Licence" in china firsrt ? or I can directly apply for student X1 without canceling the "Alien employment Licence"

Please let me know about this issue.
