About:How to Travel to China without a Visa

Here's our case. Me and my girlfriend just arriver in Hong Kong

unaware of the single entry visum we have. On the 3rd we fly to Shanghai and our return flight to the Netherlands is on the 9th at 00:30 am. The VISA offices are closer because of holliday and weekend. Can we fly to Shanghai on the third, use the 144 hour free transit and fly back from Beijing? If not, what is our best option? Cancel Shanghai and go directly to Beijing and try a 72 hour free transit there?

Please help, Richard. Thanks

Richard, if you fly like HK-Shanghai-Beijing-Netherlands, you cannot enjoy the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai.
You should fly like either HK-Shanghai- Netherlands or HK- Beijing-Netherlands, in this case, you can enjoy either 144 hour free transit in Shanghai or use 72 hour free transit in Beijing.

Thanks for your advice. So we cancel Shanghai then and visit Macau in stead for 2 days. Since flying from HKIA is cheaper we still go to Beijing from HKIA. But just to be sure and please correct me if I am wrong. When we fly on the 5th to Beijing, our 72 hour transit VISA starts on the 6th at 0;00 am? So when we pass customs on the 8th around 10 Pm and fly on the 9th at 00:30 am...we are good? Thanks a lot for your help and where do you guys get all this knowledge from?

Actually, I have heard that 72 hours in Beijing starts from the moment the flight arrives, so I cannot tell you sure. You are advised to contact with Beijing immigration inspection office to confirm that. Call: 0086-10-56095400
