About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Travel to harbin china

I am a us citizen traveling from Osaka to harbin with a layover in shanghai. I only plan on being in harbin for 2 days. Does this no visa requirement for transits apply to my situation? If not how can I get an immediate visa within 24hrs?

No it doesn´t work as you can´t have 2 stops in China when you wanna use the 72h twov in Haerbin.

Would this work if we stated in shanghai for the 72 hours? Now I'm just trying to find a way to get back home. We would return from harbin through shanghai so if it works in shanghai we can stay there and pick up on the return flight home

Yes, if you have a nonstop flight from Osaka to Haerbin, you´re eligible for the 72h twov if you fly to another country beside Japan and don´t have another stop in China.
Country A - China - Country B

what do you mean?
Where do you come from and where do you wanna go?
You fly together with Mongal?
Shanghai doesn´t have the 72h twov, just 144h twov, which allows you to travel within Shanghai, Jiangsu province and Zhejiang province.
But it´s not allowed to fly from Shanghai to Haerbin.
If you wanna visit Shanghai and Haerbin, you have to apply for a tourist visa.
