About:Chinese Red Envelope

What if traveling to China for wedding during New Year?

We are traveling from the US to China for my nephew's wedding in late January. He moved there for work and is marrying a girl he met there. Having only my midwest white farming family background to pull from, this was very helpful! Since we are the only family attending from the groom's side, is there a chance her family will expect us to fill in for the groom's parents with regard to the envelopes? Or would it be safe to assume we will be just like any other guest? My nephew isn't really sure and we can't ask his bride...

Also, we will be with the bride's family in her village near Mianyang during Spring Festival (their wedding is 1/31) I know to be prepared with envelopes - especially for her grandmother and nephew - but I don't know - would it be a fun treat to get a crisp new US bill? Or should we attempt to get new Chinese bills once we arrive?

It is likely that you will fill in for the groom's parents if his parents are absent. You should get new Chinese bills when you arrive. Good luck! ;)
