144 hour visa jeff from Los Angeles

My flight leaves may 3rd from Los Angeles arrives may 4th at pudong . We stay and fly out of Shanghai to Hong Kong on may 8th . We stay in Hong Kong until Thursday may 11th on to Japan . Would the 144 hour visa be suffecient also my passport expires in December do I need to renew before then ? Thank you so much
