Yes, if you are now in China, it's possible to change the student X type to M type. However, if you are not in mainland China, you need to apply for an M type directly.

Hello Ari! Sure you can change student visa to M visa, you would be in mainland for you to be able to do that and as well would be much easier to get approval if you're working on that with an agent.
