Dear Betty He
I think that it is very kind and accommodating of you to adapt a "Western" name for the convenience of American people. But, personally I think they can also learn how to pronounce your name properly. I have a friend from China, we met while studying in Europe. We have been friends for 4 years before I learned he real Chinese name, and it is such a beautiful name with a meaning that was special to her parents. That name was part of her for her whole life, until she came to Europe and had to replace it. I decided to call her by her real name. Changing your name is almost like assuming a new identity. So many Asian people assume a new identity to make things easy for their colleagues...but really, it is not hard to learn how to pronounce a name properly. You learned a second language, they can learn your name. I wish you all the best, you seem like a very conscientious person. x
