About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Layover in Beijing 19 hours

Hi everyone, I'm hoping somebody can help.....my husband and I are travelling to Hong Kong from the uk and we have a 19 hour layover in Beijing on route back to the uk.....now I've heard of the 72 hr free visa but not sure if it's ok to leave the airport maybe to stay in a nearby hotel to recharge our batteries?? It's an overnight stay so seems like a good idea to stay somewhere local ....I understand we will have to collect our luggage but is there anything more simple for us to do if we have to stay in Beijing airport??

Hayley, you may be given the 24 hour direct transit because you just transit there for 19 hours. You will need to apply for a free temporary stay permit at the airport and then you can claim your luggage and go out to stay at a nearby hotel.
