About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Departing Flight Must be Nonstop?

Is it true that the departing flight must be nonstop, i.e not make any connection in another chinese city? And has anyone had any experience with this requirement being strictly enforced?

Alex, usually, if you want to make use of the 72 hour free transit, you can only transit in one Chinese city.
The case may be different based on you transit in which city.
But if you transit in Shanghai, you can also transit in Zhejiang or Jiangsu. If you transit in Guangdong province, you can travel around the whole province.

So it would not be acceptable, for example, to depart Beijing with a flight to Bangkok with a 2 hour layover in Guangdong?
