I am a US citizen. I will be flying to Shanghai from Montreal and coming back to US. Do I need a visa or am I eligible for the 72-hour transit?

Appreciate your response.
I just saw my itinerary that although I am flying from Montreal but the flight route is going through US.
Am I still eligible for the 72 hour free transit as I will be coming from US and going back to US. I am not even staying more than 26 hours.
Please let me know!

In that case, you must get a visa, since you must travel directly from Canada to China then continue to the US to be eligible.
