About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Air travel Honolulu(usa) to chiangmai(thailand)2 layovers : Shanghai Pudong 5 hrs, Kunming 15 hrs

Travel time 18 hrs35 min,connecting flight wIt times=19 hrs 40 min. Stay in kunming hotel overnight during 15 hr. connectg flight time. DO I NEED SPECIAL VISA?
