which is the best route to go around and have a good visit through summer palace?and will there be anything to do/see in December?

If you take subway, you can enter and exit the park from north gate. From the entrance, you are suggested to go to climb the Longevity Hill first and overlook the park from the hill. Then come to the Long Gallery and walk along the Kunming Lake to West Causeway, go ahead and get back to the Longevity Hill. Then leave the park from the north gate. It is fine to visit the park in December, but it is quite cold at that time, so please wear warm clothes.
