Getting new Visa within China

Hi, I'm currently doing business in China and I'm looking in to the possibility of becoming a student after my contract. Would I need to leave the country to do so or would I be able to complete the process within China?

Jesse, you can try to convert the business M type entry permit to a student X type entry permit within China, but if it cannot be done in the end, I’m afraid you need to leave China and apply for it in your home country.

It's not possible to apply for it in China and then leave to say Hong Kong to get it applied?

You can try to apply for it in HK, but it may be difficult to apply from there if you don’t have HK residence permit.
