Traveling through with enroute stop/connection in China

With a Russian passport, I am flying from Seoul to Shanghai, arriving 15:40 on a Wednesday. I then have 2 options to return to Moscow on the following Saturday - one is direct to Moscow, the other, which is half the price connects via Beijing. Both flights depart Shanghai just before noon, but the cheaper connecting flight via Beijing means a scheduled departure time from China of 16:45 the same day.

Can I book the cheaper flight connecting via Beijing?

Many thanks

Anastasia, no matter which flight you choose, you cannot enjoy the free transit in Shanghai because you will fly back to Moscow. You need to apply for a tourist L type entry permit for PRC ahead of your trip.

Thanks Aston - please can you explain why this is? Is it because I am returning to Moscow? Am I only allowed the free transit when I transit to a country that is not my home (Russia)?
