About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

We are flying into Guangzhou landing on November 20th just to leave the next day for Beijing.

We will be arriving back in Guangzhou on the 27th and staying with a friend there until the 30th (still under 72 hours). On the 30th we will be traveling to Hong Kong by train and then back to Guangzhou on the 2nd to leave back to the US on rhe 3rd. All of our stays in china are under 24 hours or 72 hours. My question is if we qualify for the 72 hour transit even though we are leaving china to Hong Kong by train not flight?

You won’t be eligible for the 72 hour free transit because you will stop in both Guangzhou and Beijing.
When you return to Guangzhou, you cannot enjoy the 72 hour free transit either because the 72 hour policy is only applicable to those flight travelers.
When you return to Guangzhou from HK by train, and stay there for not more than 24 hours, you are eligible for the24 hour direct transit.
In a word, you need to apply for a double-entry tourist L type for your travel.
