About:Chinese Embassy in Australia

We are going to Shanghai via HK directly and on return stop over in HK for a few days

and then return to Sydney. can we take 144 hours transit visa?

Andy, you mean you will travel like Australia-HK-Shanghai-HK-Sydney? If yes, you won’t be eligible for the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai. You need to apply for a tourist L type in advance.
