i want to apply for a 10 year visa but my passport expires in 2018.

Question

I am unsure whether or not i should apply for a new passport and then get the 10-year entry permit to china. Appreciate any insight given over my dilemma.

Eileen, when you apply for the 10-year entry permit, it requires that your passport should have a remaining validity of more than one year. Thus, I don’t think you need to renew your passport if you apply for it now.
