I am married to a Chinese citizen since 2014

in 2014 I was issued a 2 year, 180 day multi entry Q2 visa in Hong Kong. It is time to renew now. Do you suggest getting the same Q2 type or applying for Q1? If I get a Q1, how likely is it that the residence permit they issue will be fore longer than the 2 years I can get on a Q2 type?

If you want to stay for a long time in PRC, you can convert Q2 type to a Q1 type and then get a residence permit, but I cannot assure if you can get a 2-year residence permit because the residence may be valid for one year, 1 - 3 years or 3 - 5 years. You can know what you can get only after you apply for it.

Thanks Joeseph, Just got back from Hong Kong. I got another 2 year Q2 multiple entry permit, 90 days each time. They don't do 180 days anymore but it doesn't affect me too much sine I live in Shenzhen. For the moment definitely a simpler solution than worrying about what length they might give on a residence permit.
