Do I need to get in transit visa from China Consulate in the US for round trip to Tokyo, Japan?

Hello I am a bit confused. Please tell me If I need to apply for an in transit G type at China consulate in US before my trip to Tokyo, Japan (Haneda). I am traveling on my valid US citizen passport with round trip tickets for Air China airlines departing from USA JFK to PEK with 2 hour 50 minutes stop in Beijing. Then onward transfer to Air China flight from PEK to HND Tokyo. For my return flight it will be the same airlines Air China from HND to PEK with 2 hour 55 minutes stopover in PEK. Then onward transfer from PEK to JFK. Do I need to apply for an entry permit here in USA or will I deal with any visa issues at Airport at arrival in PEK and before departing Tokyo Haneda. Thanks for your assistance.

Rick, you don’t need to apply for it in advance because you are able to make use of the 24 hour direct transit in both directions if you travel like that.
