Changing L Visa to Z type in China

I have recently set up my own business of which I have registered and have just received the Alien Employment Permit which is valid for 5 years. Can someone advise how I now get the relevant work type (Z type) as my passport is still based on the L type I used to enter China last year. Can I compkete this procedure without leaving China?

John, the first step is to prepare the relevant documents for work Z type containing your passport, valid registration form of temporary residence, a completed application form, a half-length color photo, alien employment permit and an invitation letter of a duly authorized unit, and the business registration certificate of your company. Next step is to go to the exit and entry administration of the local PSB to convert the L type to work Z type and it is possible for you to complete the procedure within China.

Hi Geoff.....tried this but the PSB Office told me I had to leave the country and go to HK to get a Z Visa then upon my return they will then change this to a Residence Permit when I apply with the supporting documentation. They were not so helpful and I presume the documents you have mentioned will be the same documents I need for HK?

You can go back to your country or HK to apply for Z type.Actually my friend has a similar question .He also had a L type before he got Z type.He went back home applied for Z type. But now the problem is his L type didn't have any cancel stamp on it ,so will the L type still valid after his Z type canceled .I hope someone could help me with this. Thanks
