72 hours visa transit

Question

we are flying from san francisco to  guangzhou, visiting relatives in zhongshan  within the 72 hours limit .can we use the  transit free visa ?also from guangzhou flying to shanghai  on the way to hong kong , can we visit the city using another  transit free visa ?  finally from hong kong we fly back to san franciscohow much it cost?       do we apply at the airport?we carry us passport    thanks for the help

Ronnie, you cannot enjoy the 72 hour free transit in Guangzhou if you will fly to Shanghai after staying in Guangzhou. You need to apply for a transit G visa or tourist L visa for that in advance and it will cost USD 140 per person.
