About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Japan - Beijing - Miami

We are travelling from Tokyo, Japan to Beijing, staying less than 72 hours in Beijing and then from Beijing back home to Miami. I understand we qualify for the 72-Hour Free Transit, correct?

Do we need to notify the airline prior to boarding? I have read online that airlines have given trouble at the time of boarding if you don't have the tourist visa stamped on your passport.

Thanks for your help!

Anna, yes, it is correct. You qualify for the 72 hour free transit.
You need to notify the airlines that you want to use the free transit in Beijing when you board the plane. Usually, the airlines should know the free transit policy.
