If you will go back to HK after a day trip to mainland PRC, you need to provide a tourist L type and it will cost 151 pounds per person.
However, if you can make a travel like this HK-mainland PRC (a day)-Macau-HK, you will be able to use the 24 hour direct transit in mainland PRC and then you don’t need to apply for any entry permit.
