About:Hong Kong Airport Express

If I'm in a hotel in HK and need to go airport, can I get the shuttle bus with no ticket on hand?

And then buy the ticket when I reach the HKIA Express station to go to airport or do I need to buy the ticket before getting the shuttle bus?

In the latter case, where can I get the ticket down-town HK?

Generally speaking, passengers are required to show proof of eligibility including AE train tickets, Airline ticket / boarding pass, Airport Staff Octopus Card, AsiaWorld-Expo entry pass or event ticket. Then they are allowed to take the free hotel shuttle bus.
However, according to your situation, you can try to explain to the bus staff. And tell them you will buy the AE ticket after getting off the bus. Then in most cases, they will let you to get on the bus.
In addition, you can buy the AE ticket at any AE Station.
Good luck!
