Hi
in march 2017 we will be cruising into Shanghai for one day then cruising out to Japan do we require a visa, we are australian

You do not need to apply for visa as long as you stay in Shanghai less than 144 hours and continue your trip to a third country. This is for your reference, please check this with the cruise company in advance.
