Are there frequent taxies from Xian railway station to the Grottoes and easy availability from the Grottoes to Shaolin Temple incase we miss the scheduled bus from the Grottoes ?How much would it cost for a taxi to get from Xian railway station to the Grottoes?

Well, it is about 250 miles (400km) from Xian. I am afraid that you can hardly find a taxi for such a long distance. You are advised to take a bullet train to Luoyang Longmen Railway Station from Xian North Railway Station (about 1.5 hours). A second class seat costs CNY 174.5; a first class seat costs CNY 279.5. Upon arrival, take bus line 7 to it. You can easily charter a car to Shaolin Temple from the grottoes. The fare may be around CNY 200-300. ;)
