About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Many thanks for your precious and most needed help on the below Qs:

Hi, we are 2 Romanians in need of your help.

We have a trip in December-January with forth and back, from Rome to Manila, and vice-versa.
Both ways have a stop in Guangzhou at Baiyun International Airport.
These are the actual flights (with China Souterhn Airlines):
Forth: 29 Dec 12:55 Rome > 30 Dec 09:40 Guangzhou > stop about 10-11 hours > 30 Dec 22:30 Manila
Return: Fri 13 Jan 17:30 Manila > Fri 13 Jan 20:30 Guangzhou > stop for just 1.5h, we will not exit the airport > 14 Jan 06:15 Rome

Few questions, please:
1. We want to go visit the city of Guangzhou for a few hours during our way to Manila. Will we enjoy the 72-h free transit?
2. Is your answer somewhat official? or should we check with some other authorities for the 100% answer?
3. From what you know, should we expect a possibility that this type of visa will change in the near future, such as a 6 months? especially with relation to Guangzhou.
4. What if we change our return flight and decide to have a bigger stop in Guangzhou so that we can visit it again for a very short stay (8-24h) can we take advantage of the 72h free transit, again?
I guess a general question would be: how many times in a given period can we take advantage of this?
5. If the plane has a technical stop in Wuhan, is that counted in for the visa conditions? we won't be able to exit the aircraft during the stop, as far as I know, I am not even sure there's the stop anyway.
6. Just to know for the future, if the plane has 2 stops in let's say Wuhan and Guangzhou but we only go outside the airport in Guangzhou, would that exit be eligible for the 72h free transit?

I know I asked a lot, so thank you so much!
Kindly,
Mihai

1. Mihai, you are eligible for the free transit in Guangzhou.
2. According to the policy, your travel route and layover time meet the relevant requirements. Of course, you can check it with the authorities if you still have any doubts.
3. I’m afraid it cannot be 6-month visa. The 72 hour visa-free transit is for those who transit in PRC, so it cannot be that long.
4. If your layover time in Guangzhou is within 72 hours when you return, you can take advantage of the 72 hour free transit there. There is no limit on how many times you can use the free transit in a given period. As long as you meet the relevant requirements, you can enjoy free transit.
5. If you will stop in Wuhan and Guangzhou, you cannot use the 72 hour free transit any more, but if your total layover in Wuhan and Guangzhou is less than 24 hours, you can enjoy the 24 hour direct transit.
6. Even though you don’t leave the Wuhan airport, you are not eligible for the 72 hour free transit. The 72 hour policy stipulates that one can only stop in ONE Chinese city.

Thanks so much! great job you guys are doing here! your help is much appreciated!
Actually, at 3), I meant to ask if we are to expect any changes in these 24h direct transit or 72h free visas, in the next months ? like i am wondering if maybe in 3 months from now the PRC government will stop offering the visas in these conditions, but my plane tickets and arrangements are already settled :)
