what if i can't get the temporary residence permit

Hello,I am an American Citizen and I have recently obtained the Z visa to enter China for work.  However, I am worried that I may not qualify for the Residence Permit once inside the country.  Also I may not wish to stay with the Institution I was hired by since I've never seen them or know anything about my accommodation.  If I don't get my Residence Permit or I decide not to stay - can I exit China without any problems ?  (My Z type states Duration of Stay after entry: 000 days)Thank you

If you cannot get the residence permit or you don’t want to stay, you can exit PRC without any problems if you exit within 30 days. Usually, a work Z type can allow you to enter PRC and stay there for no more than 30 days.
