About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

!2 hours transit at Beijing airport

Hey, I am flying to Auckland, New Zealand and I have a 12 hour transit at the Beijing airport. I have an Indian passport. Do I need a visa to go outside the airport? If yes, can I get it at the airport? How long before i have to apply for it?
Thanks

Isha, because you qualify for the 24-hour direct transit, you don't need the visa. But if you want to go outside the airport, you should apply for a temporary stay permit at the airport immigration counter upon arrival.
