14-hour layover in Beijing

Hey, I'm flying from HCMC to Austria, with a 14-hour layover in Beijing. I guess I don't need any visa just make use of the 24-hour direct transit. But do I have to apply for that or just go to immigration at Beijing airport, show my ticket and they will let me go out of the airport?

You don't need to apply for that. You can go to the immigration at Beijing airprot, show your ticket and passport and tell the officer you want to go outside of the airport, and she or he will stamp a temporary stay permit on your passport. Then you can leave.
